RAF Royal Air Force Preliminary Pilots Wing

An early nicely padded example comprising a white eagle embroidered on a black felt cloth ground. In very good condition.

The Preliminary Flying Badge (Pilot) was first introduced on 8 September 1949 (A/531) for the RAFVR and Auxiliary Air Force for those who had completed basic training for aircrew. This badge is still awarded to Pilots of the University Air Squadrons (UAS) only. It is no longer worn outside of UAS service.
