A scarce original circa October1942 wartime period 'City of London Civic Guard badge'; silver plated example in the form of the City shield from the Coat of Arms' inlaid with white enamel, bearing a red cross and 'Wat Tyler's dagger' in the first quarter. Some wear to silver plated finish otherwise in good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, maker marked JR Gaunt London with no damage to the enamel (but there are some firing flaws in this). Some Circa 25mm tall.

'The City of London Civic Guard' was created in 1942 within the Square Mile as part of the Invasion Defence Scheme, with the Lord Mayor as Commandant. There role was ill-defined, but seemed to be one of helping the military and Civivl Defence forces in whatever way requested. Scarce.
