WW1 New Zealand Memorial Death Plaque - Samuel Patrick Reid 1st Battalion Canterbury Regiment NZEF (unique plaque)

Full size original plaque or Dead Man's Penny, named to Samuel Patrick Reid, who was born of Irish parents who had resided in New Zealand for some 30 years (he was 37 at time of death so most likely born outside NZ). Wide H in "He" variety. In very good condition.

There is only one 'Samuel Patrick Reid' on the CWGC site as a casualty. The CWGC site states that this is 58597 Pte Private Samuel Patrick Reid of the 1st Battalion Canterbury Regiment, New Zealand Expeditionary Force) who was Killed in Action on the 25th August 1918.

He is interred in France and a picture of his grave stone is also available on line (a copy to be provided). As with most Kiwis medals, there are over 10 pages of services records freely available on line. I will provide a copy of a couple of pertinent pages of these records. He trained with tC Company of 29th Reinforcements, was 37 at the time of his death and a plumber by trade working for Hunt & Currie and lived in Waimate. He is noted as being entitled to a WW1 pair of the British War Medal and Victory Medal and previously served with the Volunteers until disbanded. He embarked to Scotland in August 1917 on the HMNZ Transport 'Ruahine' and was 37 at the time of his death.

Thanks to James for identifying the additional information about him which can be viewed here:

James also provided me a small portrait image of Samuel which will be provided to the buyer. My thanks again to James.

Please note I am prepared to post this to a UK address or NZ address only on account of the weight. I have made an exception for New Zealand for obvious reasons.
