68th ( Durham ) Light Infantry Other Ranks Crimean War Period Albert Shako Plate, 1844 - 1855

In relic condition, but good colour to brass. Circa 7.2cm in diameter and 10cm tall, impressed brass plate ribbed horizontally and edged with a raised wreath of oak on the left and laurel on the right, surmounted by a large Victorian crown. The regimental number "68" in raised numerals below a stringed bugle. the "6" has been slightly damaged.

This is in repaired / excavated condition. It has been broken completely through and re-soldered and strengthened from the reverse, including having the crown reattached and the orb, while still present has been soldered in place below the top of the crown. Part of right side of crown base missing. No fixings. Sold " As Found" so no returns on this item.

It is rare to find these plates in undamaged condition. Not the best example but hard to come by and would fill a hole until another one (if ever!) could be located. Of interest to Durham Light Infantry ( DLI ) collectors, or of those with an interest in the Anglo Russian Crimea war of 1854 - 1855 in which the 68th played a prominent part.
