This came off a damaged York & Lancs Regiment Bi-metal Cap Badge, long since moved on as a damaged item and I failed to notice at the time that the detached slider has stamped on the inside (unusual in itself) - Stratton Birmingham. Anyway, the slider is of interest to those collecting interesting marks. It is original and the naming is over two lines and the letters are roughly 1.5mm tall and the "Stratton" is about 1m long, and the "Birmingham" is 1.2cm long. Apologies that there is no badge!

Ivan Machin in his wonderful book "A Guide to the Badges of the York and Lancaster Regiment 1822 to 1968" refers in page 51 to this unusual pattern with manufacturer putting the name on the inside of the slider on, and states Stratton Y&L badges were being made between 1914 and 1919.
