WW2 78th Division / 2nd Battalion The Lancashire Fusiliers KD Slip-on Formation Sign Combination

A scarce WW II combination consisting of a printed yellow on black printed battle-axe of the 78th Infantry Division above a white on red embroidered fused grenade of the Lancashire Fusiliers. Both still affixed to a section of pale tropical k.d. material with hanging loops to each end to fit to the shoulder strap. This Division fought with distinction in North-Africa,Sicily and Italy.

Notable engagements in Italy include the assaults on the Viktor Line (Battle of Termoli), the Moro River Campaign, the Barbara Line and the Winter Line as well as the Battle of Monte Cassino – where Fusilier Frank Jefferson of the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers earned the division's third and final VC of the war on 16 May 1944, during an attack on the Gustav Line, Monte Cassino, Italy. Sadly Jefferson's VC was stolen from his mother's home in 1982 and has not been recovered!
