WW1 Silver War Badge (SWB) to Pte Harold Marsland, Royal Engineers / Bedford Signals (SSTC)

SWB officially impressed B47981 Sapper / Pioneer Harold Marsland, Royal Engineers / Bedfordshire Signals. An unmarked silver circlet inscribed 'For King And Empire Services Rendered' bearing crowned 'GRI' Imperial Cypher to voided centre. In good condition, dark toned, with original C clasp and pin. Blob of silver solder to left side of C clasp. Circa 32mm in diameter. Copy of CD version of SWB roll entry and copy of WW1 Medal Index Card (MIC) to be supplied.

222163 Pioneer Harold Marsland Royal Engineers Regiment enlisted 22nd January 1917 and discharged on the 15th November 1918 on account of sickness. He did serve overseas and was entitled to a BWM and VM. His SWB entry includes additional information, states his rank as Sapper rather than Pioneer as per his MIC, his age at discharge is given as 26 and that his unit on discharge was 'Royal Engineers Bed. Sigs." The latter is presumably a reference to the SSTC (Signals Service Training Centre) which was moved to Bedford in October 1917. For more information see:

Approximately 1,150,000 badges were issued to all services, which had to be claimed and then approved.
