WW2 East African Kenya Regiment (TF) Auxiliary Air Unit (KAAU) Cast Brass Cap Badge

A rare attractive theatre made large and heavy cast cap badge to this colonial war raised unit which was formed during WW2 in 1940, the pilots trained by the Aero Club of Kenya were grouped into the “Kenya Auxiliary Air Unit”. Dozens of club members had joined; nineteen members were subsequently killed in the war after the unit's incorporation into the Royal Air Force. Many made names for themselves in the North African and European theatres. Several, including Sqn. Ldr. George Reynolds and Sqn. Ldr. Alec Noon were highly decorated.

A good example, which has had its slider removed and contemporary lugs nicely soldered in its place. Circa 5.1cm wide and 4cm tall. Most of the East African badges were cast and made in Nairobi. Rare.
