WW2 Rhodesia 17th Field Battery (1/6 Field Regiment South African Artillery (SAA))

A rare brass cap badge as worn by 3/17th Battery of the Rhodesian Field Artillery as part of the 6th South African Armoured Division in the Italian campaign, 1943 - 1945. A bird crossing a river with the number 17 below. Two original flat connector style loops to the reverse, bent over for comfort when worn in the cap. Front of brass dulled and a few surface scratches and blemishes. These were allegedly locally manufactured from spent artillery shells.

Renfrew et al, Vol 1 No 624 refers. Owen (1st Edition - No 582) describes this as Rare.
