WW1 Wound Stripe with original backing plate - with fold over ends

Gilt finish is a bit worn but still in reasonably good condition and with the wording "Imperial Wound Stripe Prov Pat No 30 No 7342" embossed on the backing plate. One fracture to one limb of the fold-over on one side otherwise in good condition. Given this break, opening the tabs is not recommended.

The stripe is exactly 2 inches in length and was authorised for wear by Army Order 249 of August 1916 and this was only issued in this size up to 1922 (discontinued for wear on uniform by Army Order 434 of 1922). This one is a fold over variety - it has no lugs but this is its design - they had to get round the competition's patent somehow!

Wound stripes issued in WW2 were only 1.5 inches in length.
