Canadian Militia - 50th Battalion (The Gordon Highlanders of Canada) White Metal Glengarry Badge

A die struck white metal example with two original loops, but these have both been split open on the apex of each one, not quite sure why but still functional and otherwise in good condition. Sold as seen, no returns on this item. Worn 1913 - 1920 only.

The 50th Gordon Highlanders were a pre-1914 militia unit formed in Victoria British Columbia (Sir Arthur Currie helped raise the regiment in 1913).
The 50th Regiment contributed volunteers to the 7th Bn and the 16th Canadian Scottish Bn, among others at the outbreak of the war. The 50th was amalgamated with the 88th Regiment, (Victoria Fusiliers) to form the Canadian Scottish in 1920. The Canadian Scottish perpetuated the 16th Bn Canadian Scottish of the CEF.
When the 16th Canadian Scottish was formed in 1914, it had companies from various Canadian Scottish militia regiments. No 1 Coy was the 50th Gordon's, No 2 Coy, 72nd Seaforths, No 3 Coy, 79th Cameron Highlanders (Winnipeg) and No 4 Coy, 91st Highlanders from Hamilton. Evidences indicates that the battalion proceeded overseas with the parent unit insignia. The 50th Gordons also raised and sent a large draft overseas during WW1. They were badged to the regiment.
