Northumberland Fusiliers Officer's Service Dress OSD Bronze Cap Badge - Gaunt Tablet - Blades - Type 1

A die cast bronze example of two part construction with flames to 19 points and the flames are less curved than the example listed below. Two original blades to the reverse. Mounted on the ball is St George facing left within a title circle NORTHUMBERLAND / FUSILIERS. Circa 42mm tall and 33mm wide across the flames. Worn on the SD cap. This pattern was worn from 1902, but note 16 on page 75 of Colonel Wood's book states that by 1914 the regular battalions and depot had stopped wearing this badge. Maker's tablet JR Gaunt / London to reverse of grenade. A pleasing example.

Col D Wood "The Fifth Fusiliers and its Badges" (2nd Edn) No 171 refers.
