23rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Welch (Welsh) Fusiliers) Officer's Waist Belt Clasp (WBC) pre 1881

Scarce pre-1881 officers silver and gilt, the "Small plumes / large numbers" pattern waist belt clasp. The Prince of Wales's plumes above the number "23" to the centre of a circlet bearing the title with plain squared rococo scrolled belt loops to each end. Some dark toning to silver otherwise gilt bright and in good condition. No benchmarks evident but a good tight match.

One of two patterns noted to this regiment by Ryan, one with smaller plumes and larger letters as offered for sale here (Ryan No 35) and the other has larger plumes and smaller letters (Ryan No 36).
