Georgian Napoleonic Royal Regiment of Artillery Officer's Gilt Two Piece Construction Tunic Coatee Button

This button displays the Ordnance arms. Circa 20.5mm in diameter, it is slightly convex and of two part metal construction with original shank to reverse and a blow hole to reverse for heat expansion when the two parts were braised together. Gilt and detail is very worn, possibly excavated, but in good condition despite this. This was the second pattern button worn circa 1790 until 1802. Other ranks wore the same design as officer's but in pewter and open-backed. Scarce.

Parkyn Fig 54 refers.
