Introduced in 1879 and withdrawn from wear in 1909 (I can confirm this for definite as I have a sealed pattern of this item in my own collection and it has been annotated as such). Historical Bronze Old Penny sized Medallion commemorating the Gigantic Wheel at Earls Court London in 1897
I have lightened the photos on this dark toned item so you can see the detail. Forerunner of the London Eye. This gigantic wheel was 284 feet in diameter and weighed 900 tons. it had 40 cars each capable of carrying 30 people and one could see Windsor castle from the top. All of this detail is on the reverse. Milled rim. Generally good condition.
