WW1 Canadian Artillery Officer's Gilt Brass Cap Badge with turning wheel
Die struck with riveted central wheel which turns freely. Two of two original horizontal lugs diagonally placed. In very good condition. Gilt brass. Circa 5cms tall.
Charlton claims a turning wheel was officer issue. It is gilt also.

A die struck example with two original loops (slightly bent inwards) with maker's tablet JR Gaunt / London to reverse. For some reason they are usually found quite polished but this one is in very good condition with sharp detail.

Adie struck cap badge with two pinched but still functional loops to reverse otherwise in very good condition with sharp detail.

A lovely example with pin and retaining nut.
The Canadian government created the badge in 1941 to recognize the service of Canada's merchant mariners, most of whom wore civilian clothing ashore because they had no uniforms. In 1948, the Canadian government extended eligibility to Canadian merchant mariners who had served in Allied merchant ships.
