A left facing die struck bronze metal collar badge with two original lugs to the reverse of each. According to the Museum, as cited by Churchill, they were unpopular with the Regiment and only worn for one year, 1881 - 1882, even though the pattern that replaced them was not sealed until 1887. Dorsetshire Regiment Officer's Pair of No 1 Dress Matched and Facing Silver Plated and Enamel Collar Badges - Marabout
Lime green enamel suggests post 1908 pattern, and the features of the sphinx suggest these were made by Gaunt. Some slight damage to the enamel on the left facing Sphinx (see photo) otherwise in good condition and worn until 1958 only. Two original silvered loops to reverse with cotter pins.
