WW2 South Africa - Regiment Botha (Commando) Regiment Theatre Cast Cap Badge
Presumably a WW2 North African cast copy, theatre made, with two tomb stone style loops (one slightly damaged).
Regiment Botha was formed on 1st April 1934 at Ermelo and recruited in the then-northern and eastern Transvaal. By 1939 there were two battalions but only the second was mobilised on 19th June, 1940.

A near mint die struck gilding metal example in unissued condition but with a slider presumably for wearing on the pagri band on the tropical / sun helmet. Raised in 1902. Disbanded in 1926. Helmet badges found in a variety of metals: white metal, bronze, gilding metal and blackened.

The British colony of Sierra Leone contributed one battalion of infantry to the West African Field Force. It was formed from personnel of the Sierra Leone Frontier Police.
