4th Regiment of Foot / Kings Own Lancaster Regiment Officers Gilt Mounted Blue Frock Coat / Mufti Button, c.1840s - 1850s

A very scarce gilt button, two piece construction, fixed shank, back marked Jennens & Co, London. A small demi-ball button at circa 15mm in diameter. Gilt bright, in extremely good condition. The cypher on most of these buttons were extremely hard to read, but this one is simple with the letters KOR entwined below a Victorian crown.

Removed from uniform, original paper backing. Worn from 1929 until 1953. Also worn unofficially on the Field Service Cap. This pattern with hilts incorrectly placed on the Seax, as noted by Michael Wood in his impressive work The Badges and Insignia of the Essex Yeomanry.
