Gilt bright with two original lugs and backing plate. This is exactly 2 inches in length and was authorised for wear by Army Order 249 of August 1916 and this was only issued in this size up to 1922 (discontinued for wear on uniform by Army Order 434 of 1922).

Wound stripes issued in WW2 were only 1.5 inches in length.

In good condition with no mothing or damage, but some age to them. One is circa 7.5cm squared and the other 7.2cm squared.

Postally unused, some wear to reverse and corner bumps, especially bottom right. P&O steamer taken up into Admiralty service as a troop ship. The Dongola was involved in evacuating the 29th Division and wounded from Sulva Bay Gallipoli on 25th April 1915, and served generally in support of the forces in the campaign thereafter.
